6 simple decorations to make Thanksgiving special
There year, Mike and I are hosting our very first Thanksgiving at our new house and are very excited about it! We are hosting for 20+ people, so I’ll admit that along with the excitement comes some stress in planning recipes, testing them in advance (like our trial run of smoking a turkey), grocery shopping, cleaning, and let’s not forget decorating! I wanted our house to feel warm and like fall for our Thanksgiving feast and so came up with 6 simple Thanksgiving decorations to make the holiday special on our first time hosting to both of our families.
All of these items are inexpensive and will help to create the holiday atmosphere I was trying to achieve. I have incorporated these decorations throughout the house including our mantle, buffet where we will serve food from, the tables, etc. Want the look? Here are the 6 simple Thanksgiving decorations:
1. Fake leaves:
Whether loose leaves to scatter around tables and other furniture, or a strand of garland of leaves, fake leaves are the perfect decor to place out for fall. They aren’t messy like displaying real fallen leaves and will last for years to come.
2. Fall wreath:
I love to hang a wreath above my mantle since there was a huge nail there when we moved in and I thought “why not?!” I also place one on the front door. I think wreaths are truly the quintessential holiday decor. When I see a house with a holiday wreath on the front door, I just know that those people have taken the time to decorate inside their house as well….at least in my mind!
3. Mini pumpkins:
Don’t get me wrong, I do love to get the real tiny pumpkins and gourds to display around my house in the fall and for Thanksgiving, but with the amount of them that I would need to decorate, it makes more sense to use the fake ones. They last from year to year and look quite real.
4. Pine cones:
Cinnamon is such a great smell for fall and winter. Mike loves cinnamon pine cones, so over the years, I’ve started adding them into our holiday decor. Scattering them around the house or displaying them all in a basket are great ways to add a little nature and good smells to your house.
5. Candles:
Candles are a great way to add light, scent and mood to any room. And a bonus is that any of the seasonal scents you get for Thanksgiving will work through Christmas and New Years!
6. Thankful banner:
Let’s not forget that the true meaning of Thanksgiving is to in fact be thankful and give thanks. What better way to be reminded of that than to have a little banner or sign displayed with those words?
