How To Roast Garlic
We love garlic in this house. In fact, we add it to almost every recipe. Whether fresh, sautéed, or roasted, there is usually some amount of garlic in what we cook. Roasted garlic adds a milder, sweeter garlic flavor to dishes than its fresh or sautéed counterparts. It will also make your house smell delightful. This post will show you how to roast garlic.
Preparing Your Garlic Bulbs for Roasting:
1. Carefully peel the papery skins off of the garlic bulb. Get as much of it off without breaking the cloves off of the bulb.
2. Cut the tips of the cloves off, about 1/4 inch.
3. Pour 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil over the trimmed bulbs. The bulbs of garlic I used in this post were small, so 1 tablespoon was per garlic bulb was plenty. You’ll want to make sure the surface of the bulb is covered with olive oil and that some runs down into the bulb as well.
How To Roast Garlic in Aluminum Foil
When I first started roasting garlic, I used aluminum foil to make little roasting pouches. This is an easy way to roast garlic. Pull out a piece of foil, about 15 inches or so.
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
Place prepared garlic bulb on the foil and then pull the sides up and fold. You’ll want to ensure that the foil isn’t touching the top of the garlic bulb.
Squeeze the sides to close them.
Place in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
How to Roast Garlic in a Garlic Roaster
I really do think that things taste better cooked in cast iron. The same is true for roasting garlic. I love my cast iron garlic roaster. It’s also a great gift for anyone who loves to cook. You can order one here. It will fit 2 small heads of garlic or one large one.
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
Place your prepared garlic bulb(s) in the roaster bottom.
Put the cover onto the roaster and place into the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
Roasting Multiple Garlic Bulbs in a Muffin Pan
If you need to roast a number of garlic bulbs in bulk, say for making homemade pasta sauce like I do, you won’t be able to fit them in a roaster, and probably don’t want to use a ton of aluminum foil. Instead, use a muffin pan to roast the garlic bulbs.
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
Place the prepared bulbs in the muffin holes.
Cover the entire pan with aluminum, making sure it isn’t pulled tight. You don’t want the foil touching the tops of the garlic bulbs.
Place in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
